I had completely forgotten about this community. I figured out I owned it by accident. How did this happen?

I think the saddest thing is that though half the people in this comm. hated me for my opinions, they really haven't changed in the years that have passed.

I wonder if anyone will read this?

I joined the fandom around August 2001, and have been writing fanfiction for over two years (obviously), as well as reading. What I want to know is...

What happens when the fandom is...

On Order of the Phoenix and Fanfiction
My, this community is quiet.. *g* In view of which, I decided to drag together a few ideas and put them down for all to see. Besides which, I have homework that I really don't want to do :D

I am so not good at this.

Anyway. I was talking ages back to a RL friend of mine about Order of the Phoenix, and she said something interesting - that the new characters introduced in Book V were harder to accept than the characters from previous books because of the huge void between the publishing of the books. I agreed.

Ahhh, the lovely LJ cut textCollapse )

Follow Up
This is sort of a follow up post to the last one by slytherin_dream. I have a couple thoughts on Gryffindor/Slytherin.

The reason I do not ship Draco/Ginny, Draco/Hermione, and Harry/Draco is because of the OOC-ness. The way they're usually written is complete with Punk!Ginny or Makeover!Hermione. And I believe that Harry and Draco hate each other too much to ever just leap into bed and screw each other senseless.

If it is well-written and true to canon then fine. But Draco has been awful to Hermione, calling her a Mudblood and such. And Draco hates the Weasley's, saying awful things about their financial situation to Ron's face. Yes, not to Ginny directly. But if it is well-written it can be truly great to read. I've just read one too many fics where Hermione is a blonde, and she is all of a sudden really hot and then Draco starts making passes, etc.

But I'll read H/D, D/G, and H/D if it's true to canon. I just have issues with Ginny-Sues and Hermione-Sues. And H/D seems to be the new thing on FF.Net. And it's usually written so badly that it's just not plausible.

That is all.

On the Snape/Gryff impossibilities.
I have been thinking (always such a dangerous occupation).

Actually, malfoypatriarch has been thinking. In her LJ she came up with some Marauder/Death Eater parallels. From there, my brain started bouncing around, yelling to be heard.

Firstly, I don't mean to offend any Snape/Black, Snape/Potter [jnr and snr], Snape/Lupin, or Snape/Pettigrew shippers. I do not mean to offend anyone.

Where are the grounds for these ships? To search for Snape slash now, you will find more Snarry and Snupin than anything else. It would appear that they are the favourite Snape-newbie-fans pairings. Is it the appeal of making Snape repent?
Possibly. There are FAR too many repenting Snapes running around out there, in all their OOC glory. For slightly older writers, probably not, as many of the fics seem to be based on PWP or close to it.

Then is it to see the dynamics of a Gryffindor/Slytherin relationship? There is a hell of a lot of Gryff/Slyth out there, counting Harry/Draco alone. It's a hugely over done pairing, though there are some fics lurking there that I'll read.

The dynamics of such a relationship are.. interesting, certainly. But there never seems to be much soul-searching. In the case of Snupin especially, and to some extent Snarry, it's a crush Snape's been holding since childhood.

But does that match with Snape's psyche? Here are four boys that are making his life *hell*. They're popular, he's probably jealous of them. But however fine the line is between love and hate, the Marauders are beyond hatred for Snape. There's a lot of passion there, yes, but it's all negative. Snape is one huge ball of repressed rage, torment and utter, utter hatred. You see that all unravel in the Shrieking Shack.

So.. Individually, one by one?

Black/SnapeCollapse )
James/Snape and Harry/SnapeCollapse )
Remus/SnapeCollapse )
Peter/SnapeCollapse )

And that is, quite simply, my views on the Snape/Gryffindor implausibility.

Thoughts, anyone?

Sorry, I'm new and I just have a quick question:

Who is this Cassie person who people are upset with?

Thanks, but I was just curious.

Cliche first post...
Hey everyone.

This is my obligatory first post. I guess I'll tell some stuff about myself... yeah. I ship H/G and R/H, but I read others when bored. I believe I joined... *counts* in mid 1999. That somehow doesn't seem right, but I'm fifteen now and I was at the end of fifth grade at the time.

I wrote some bad bad Mary Sue fanfiction around seventh grade year. I've written some angsty HP fanfiction mostly for myself, but don't read much because of all the Mary Sues at FF.Net. I don't really care if the author writes them, but it is rather annoying to read about Harry's long lost twin who has 'blood red hair' and 'sapphire eyes' or another horrible cliche. I mostly go to Gryffindor Tower and SugarQuill for some excellent, well written fanfiction.

The real reason I joined here was that I needed a place to reminisce. I do remember the old days, before the movies. I remember when you could find good fanfiction. When there was so much uncharted territory. It almost makes me sad, to remember those days. It makes me feel so old.

Ok, enough of that. Thank you all for listening to my rant. I guess that's it. I'll be posting some stuff later.

Intro type post thingy.
I have been hanging around the fandom since Jan. 2000 at the latest. I know this because I remember turning sixteen and reading fanfic on my birthday instead of having a proper party. *Puts on Dork sign*

I started posting my crap that summer on FF.net and quite frankly, my first fic was Plebefic complete with a Mary Sue relative of Snape. Special Powers, Death, Angst... you name a quality of bad fic and it had it. *Blushes* I then wrote a not so crappy fic that I will admit to being mine. It took about a year for me to start posting fics again and now I am working on a not so crappy fic..../plug

When I was a newbie, I will admit to being a bit of a plebe. Not a netspeak plebe, a "short post with no real development of opinions post" plebe. I have grown out of that. Although I am still a dork.

I proudly admit to being a Hufflepuff, although Hufflerin is more accurate. I also am guilty of being a fandom bitch and an APR member. I was a Hufflepuff mod for most of last year when I had to leave to work and spend a bit of time in London.

Plagiarism bugs me. I suppose that is why I am not a huge fan of CC.

In the real world, (I think that's what people call it) I am a 19 year old University student with not enough time on her hands. I like the word thingy. It describes a lot. I am a bitch in real life too...apparently. Apparently I'm from Sweden as well. *Shrugs* It would nice to be able to speak Swedish though...

That's me in a nutshell kids.

Just out of idle curiosity about the colourscheme of the community, not to mention the few names I recognise, I was wondering what the general stance of the community is.

I re-read that and realised it makes no sense. Guh.

Ignore all that, then *G*

Are most people here Pro-Slytherin, Pro-Gryffindor, or..? Just curious about, like I say, the colour scheme and names and icons. I know I'm a Slytherin-based writer, at any rate. Was ruminating about everyone else.

This has gone too far.
We need to step back and examine ourselves very long and hard. Sure this can be a place of rants, but it also has to be a place of good and fun... such as art, and fanfiction.
So, I present to you, art from my upcoming fic.

skye_black made a few uhm...good?...comments in her last entry. So yea. Meg and I decided to make a couple of things clear:

1) Any severe hate-post you have to give ought to be for this community only-so friends-lock it. And it needs to be legite. No "I F!CKING HATE _____________ SHE IS SUCH A WH!RE BLAH BLAH BLAH!" In fact, keep your hatred towards anonymous people unless it's impossible. If it's impossible, keep it to your personal journal. More than likely half the people here have you friended anyway.

2) We are not going hidden. That will just give f_w something else to harrass us about, and it will make us appear elite.

3) I am a stupid mod. I set a bad example. That's what my mother says, too. And half my teachers. Isn't that a fun fact? Now I shall go indulge myself in slashy, smutty Dragon Knights fics.

ps-compromising is good fun.

Since pretty much anything is allowed, here are my thoughts, if you care to read them:

skyeblack3: What are your thoughts on the azkabanbreakout comm?
etg rhi: *shrug* Well, I was the one who suggested an oldbie community being started, right? But the reason I suggested it was more for the nostalgia than anything, so bunches of us could get together and reminisce
etg rhi: Pika's not exactly the diplomatic type, and I think her initial "rules" have made it all a lot more huge a deal than it actually is.
etg rhi: what're yours?
skyeblack3: I think a place for oldbies to hook up and chat about old times or what have you is a wonderful idea... somebody tried starting one last year- the secret playground or somesuch.
etg rhi: yeah, Alicia, though that didn't work out too well
skyeblack3: but to be blunt, it seems more like some of them just mean to round up oldbies who didn't get a lot of recognition and bitch about the people who have to make themselves feel better.
skyeblack3: What's their beef with f_w?
etg rhi: I know. That's what I'm worried about, kind of. It's turning into an "I hate Cassie, her Draco killed my Dracofics and lost me all my fangirls" thing
skyeblack3: Rapidly.
etg rhi: It seems Cassie's always the center of discussion, whether it's because you like her or not. And it miffs me, because they can't seem to focus on the good things (like ff.net being a whole lot less plebey0.
etg rhi: Blah.
skyeblack3: They're all jealous of her, I gather. "I hate Cassie, her Draco killed my Dracofics and lost me all my fangirls" Reminds me too much of "The popular girl stole the boy I had a crush on."
skyeblack3: I would like to ask them all not to turn fandom into high school.

So: let's all try and not further the process of turning fandom into high school.

etg rhi: but it is a recurring theme. Like, every person has mentioned the "Cassie issue" in their intro post, like it's some sort of huge deal
skyeblack3: It boggles me when they say "I hate CC because she plaigarized", because they're all fanfic authors. That's what fanfic is. But, that's another conversation that's been beaten to death.
etg rhi: I know. Besides, everyone borrows lines & ideas from somewhere; there're only what, 7 unique plots in the history of literature? If you don't like her, don't read, just don't bitch about it over and over again.
skyeblack3: They're all little Antheas.
etg rhi: *headdesk* And that is why this bothers me, because Meg & Pika are rather good friends of mine from before, but their community is turning into Cassiehate -_-
skyeblack3: Pika's "intro" post seems to be among the worst of them.
etg rhi: Because I think she really is bitter about the Cassie thing. Like, very much so.
skyeblack3: Why?
skyeblack3: The attention thing?
etg rhi: Part of it's that, yeah, because in the end, a lot of it all goes back to who's famous and who's not. And she thinks Cassie ruined Draco.
skyeblack3: In a perfect world, if one didn't like a thing, they would ignore it and move on.
etg rhi: True but unfortunately, not all people think like that. Some people hold grudges for veryvery long.

Perhaps you should just break down and start a "Cassiehate" community. If there isn't one already.

The above isn't an attack, for the record. If I wanted to attack the surely well-meaning (I guess) attention deprived Pika, I'd insert a bunch of explitives and make some comments about her mother. But she's a friend of Rhi's so I'm sure she's great on some level.

Also, I had a thing against newbies for a while, too. It says something about calibre of JKR's writing and the greatness of the fandom that we love it so much we want to keep it all to ourselves. It's so, so unspeakably foolish, though, to think that the wave of people who came to fandom with the post GoF wave are any different than those who came on board just after PS. IE: you had the stupid ones, the fangirls, the smart kids, the ones who thought they were much more important than they actually were....

A comm for oldschoolers to meet again and bullshit is great, but in the case of this particular community, it just seems like it's a pretense for gathering up oldbies who didn't get a lot of recognition and bitching about those who did to make themselves feel better, as I said above.

So, yeah. Just my unorganized thoughts. Can be found at andreallybadeggs@hotmail.com if you wish to flame me or something.

Another introduction
Well, hello from me too! And some rambling... :)

First, aylapascal, I've been in the fandom even less than you. My first story was posted on May 21st, 2001. Although I started writing another story (the second one I posted, still bad, still unfinished) already in March.

Ships? Draco/Ginny, Ron/Hermione, Harry/Cho - now this is something people tend to hate! :D I read everything, though. Especially if it's written really well. And I mean everything.

House? Ravenclaw, although I've been occasionally placed in every other House too.

Cassandra Claire? Somehow something went wrong with her trilogy in the end of Draco Sinister and only in the latest chapters ov Draco Veritas it has become better again. I've seen better authors than her, though.

The fandom? Sometimes it makes me want to cry and just leave it behind. (especially with Fandom-Wank and Watchful Entity...) Then I find a fairly good story again. But it becomes harder and harder to find one. Even on FA. When they started it, only the best stories were accepted - now every teenybopper posts their stories there, with no restrictions... Almost as bad as good ol' FFN.

/end of incoherent rambling

Hello everybody,

Although I did not join the fandom until March of 2001, Meg said I could join anyway. I suppose I should now introduce myself.

I'm one of the masses of people who joined after GoF and now I spend my days haunting FA, trying to sort through the filth to find the gems. Alas, there are too few of the latter and too much of the former. In my opinion, this fandom is sliding, but every now and then, there is a ray of hope in the darkness.

I ship Lucius/Narcissa, Bellatrix/Voldemort, Ron/Hermione and Harry/Draco. Anybody who feels like forming an opinion about me from the last two ships will have to answer to my sharp tongue. I have nothing against people who ship other ships, and will, in fact, read well-written stories from all ships. Yes, even Harry/Ginny. I do, after all, have a fairly open mind. Note the word fairly.

I am also a Slytherin, with Ravenclaw tendencies. These tendencies are very small. I have written a number of fics, in a number of ships. As I said, I have a fairly open mind.

According to all who know me, I am very opinionated about all subjects, ranging from politics to religion to sports. If you ever want an opinion, just talk to me.

Finally, about our infamous Cassandra Claire. I have read her fics and find them to be okay. Not horrible, but nothing fantastic. Nice to read when you are tired, but when you want brain food, they are very mediocre.

*shuffles in* January of 2001 you say? Er. Um. Will June of 2001 do? Blame my presence here on dmp posting that she was having problems joining you. I went "Hmm. That place looks... heeeyyyyyy." And joined.

Hi! I'm Sara. I've been floating about the fandom for a couple years now, and have somehow remained unknown to this day. This is likely due to the fact that I don't write. I just review like mad. And until about a year ago, I was an active member on a set of AOL parenting boards. (They're something of an insular group that knows little of the outside fandom, so don't count much based on that.) I gave up when I tired to death of the infighting.

I haunt FictionAlley, I periodically poke FFN, RS, and a couple of others, but mostly my haunt is FA. And yes, Warner Brothers killed the fandom. When I first heard they were making movies, my response was a Luke Skyewalkeresque wail of NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

*shuffles off*

*waves pom-poms in air*
*grins* Ahhh, I see you got it up! And in such a short amount of time, I thought it would be weeks before we saw this dream become a reality. How glad I am that it has!

Some of you know me, some you don't know. I know some of you, though (DMP, Pika, Meg...I'd worry if I had forgotten about you, Meg. You live with me!) I've been in the fandom since the fall of 2000 (which was possibly the best year of my life...and also the second most tragic) and have fallen out of it many times after, so that's probably why I'm not a very well-known name among those here. On Fanfiction.net, I was the incorrigible, idiotic Paige Collins, though I've grown quite a lot, I'm sure, since then.

I'm sorry if I sound like a total idiot; I suck at introductions. And I'm also about half-asleep after a grueling day at school (we go back early, in August; yet another reason I hate my school system).

So, hey, everyone, look forward to many bitchings and memories! ;)
